On June 14, the last satellite of China Beidou-3 Global Satellite Navigation System was ready. The Long March 3B carrier rocket that had launched the launch mission has completed all the test work before launch and will be launched soon. Since then, the Beidou-3 navigation system will enter the era of global differential high-precision positioning due to this satellite, becoming the second global positioning system that can compete with GPS positioning.
However, the launch mission originally scheduled for June 16 was temporarily postponed and the launch time is to be determined. In the capital market, the concept of satellite navigation rose volatility in early trading on June 16, while Thailand rose more than 7%, and Yaguang Technology rose more than 5%, which is also equivalent to an early warm-up for the stock market. Behind the rise is the capital market’s concern and expectation for the launch of Beidou Navigation.
The completion of BDS is of great significance to the satellite navigation industry. 2020 is the year when the BDS will be fully completed and will provide a significant impetus for the new round of development of the domestic satellite navigation industry. The BDS is a global satellite navigation system independently built and operated by China focusing on the needs of national security and economic and social development, which is an important national space-time foundation for providing global users with all-weather, high-precision positioning, navigation and timing services. BDS, as an important space infrastructure in China, serves the national defense construction and the civilian market, the domestic market and the foreign market, and will also become a shiny "National Card".
The Output Value of BDS Accounts for The Vast Majority of Domestic Satellite Navigation Industry
In 2018, the overall output value of domestic satellite navigation and location service industry reached 43 billion USD, an increase of 18.3% over 2017, and that of last year, reached nearly 58 billion USD, an increase of 34.6% over 2018. It is expected that the total industrial output value in 2020 will exceed 67 billion USD. Among them, the output value of the BDS occupies the vast majority, which is expected to increase from 49 billion USD in 2019 to more than 59 billion USD, an increase of 20% year-on-year.
The public is pretty optimistic about the development of the BDS industry. First, because of the uncertain international situation and the independent and controllable domestic demand for satellite systems; second, because the domestic BDS industry chain forms a closed loop, is not affected by the global economy, nor is it affected by the epidemic; The third is that after the BDS completes the networking, 5G downstream applications such as autonomous driving will guarantee the long-term demand for the industry chain.
From 2019 to 2025, the growth rate of BDS output value will remain at around 19%, which is expected to exceed 101 billion USD by 2023. The gradual improvement of BDS will become the core driving force for the development of the domestic satellite navigation industry. Eventually, the BDS will form a global coverage capability.
BDS Industrial Chain Has Formed A Closed Loop
The BDS industry has formed a relatively complete industrial chain closed loop, which is composed of three parts, including the space section, the ground section, and the user section. Among them, the space section and the ground section are the national core infrastructure, which is mainly completed by the state investment, while the navigation user section is mainly operated through the market.
The user section can be further subdivided into upstream, midstream, and downstream industries. The upstream basic components are the key link for the industry to be independently controllable. The basic components are the most critical parts for independent controllability, which are mainly composed of baseband chips, modules, antennas, etc. Terminal integration and system integration are the focus of industry development; downstream solutions and operation and maintenance services provide numerous industrial applications.
The Proportion of Downstream Operation Services Will Continue to Increase
BDS is essentially the underlying platform technology for building a precise space-time network, and one of the important sensors of the Internet of Things in the future. It is expected that the BDS will be integrated and complementary with 5G, Internet of Things, and other "new infrastructure" technology directions in the future. Change the form of domestic communication network facilities, and provide accurate space-time information for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, blockchain, and other new technology infrastructure and data center, intelligent computing center, and other computing power infrastructure.
