Laminated
glass is produced by laminating one or more layers of organic resin interlayer
between two or more sheets of glass at high temperature and pressure. It is a
type of safety glass that holds together when shattered, which keeps the layers
of glass bonded even when broken and prevents the glass from breaking up into
large sharp pieces. This produces a characteristic spider web cracking pattern
when the impact is not enough to completely pierce the glass.
Laminated
glass can be divided into five categories according to different types of
materials: Poly Vinyl Butyral (PVB), Ethyl Vinyl Acetate (EVA), ionoplast Polymers,
Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), and Cast in Place (CIP) Liquid Resin. PVB is a
kind of resin, mainly used in automobile windshield. EVA laminated glass is
very suitable for railing or balcony panels, which has better moisture
resistance than most PVB laminated glass. The ionic plastic polymer of
laminated glass greatly improves the lamination processability and improves the
adhesion to the air side of the glass. TPU is widely used, such as resisting
hurricane impact and making electronic equipment housings and keyboard
protectors, etc. CIP laminated glass is made by pouring resin into the cavity
between two adjacent glass plates, and the common laminated thickness is 1.0mm
to 1.5mm.
Laminated glass has many uses and has found applications in residential and non-residential applications. In residential applications, many buildings use laminated glass with good sound-damping properties. In non-residential applications, laminated glass is used in windshields for various vehicles from cars to trains. In recent years, the demand for the laminated glass is exponentially growing from the construction industry. In addition, there is also an increasing demand for the laminated glasses from the automotive sector.
Laminated glass is widely used because of its high strength, impact resistance, noise reduction and other advantages. Its powerful functions and benefits drive consumption, which are beneficial to the development of the industry. As more and more people become more aware of the safety and energy-saving benefits of laminated glass in the construction industry, the demand for laminated glass has also increased.
Prospect Analysis of Laminated Glass Industry in Various Regions
Due to the increasing use of laminated glass in the construction industry in the Asia-Pacific region and the growing demand for laminated glass in the automotive industry in developing countries, the Asia-Pacific market has become the largest revenue market, with a market share of 52.44% in 2015. In 2020, it was 55.86% with an increase of 3.42%. The Asia-Pacific region is expected to continue to be at the forefront of the laminated glass market, mainly because of the growing demand from developing countries in the region. At the same time, the increasing population, rapid urbanization, rapid construction industry growth, and high investment in infrastructure projects in emerging economies such as China and India have promoted the laminated glass market in the region, which is expected to become an emerging market.

From a regional perspective, in the global laminated glass market, North America and Europe are expected to follow the growth of the Asian market. The European market share in 2020 is 19.95%, ranking second. The U.S. residential construction industry has recovered rapidly in the past five years. It is expected that the construction industry will maintain a strong growth momentum in the next 10 years, and the future demand of laminated glass will also increase substantially.
The laminated glass market has entered a mature stage with high industry concentration. The top three companies are AGC Inc., Fuyao Group, NSG Group with the revenue market share of 23.96%, 16.30%, 13.77% in 2020.
The Demand for Laminated Glass in the Future Will Be Large, with a Huge Market
In recent years, the growth of the laminated glass market has been driven by the downstream demand market. Although in the first quarter of 2020, the laminated glass industry was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected its production and sales. However, the rapid development of the global economy and the increasing population and market demand play a positive role in expanding the laminated glass market.
The increasing demand for laminated glass in the automotive industry is a key factor driving the growth of the global laminated glass market. Although the demand for laminated glass in the automotive field has declined in 2019, due to safety considerations, the demand for laminated glass for automotive sunroofs and windshields is increasing, which will drive the demand for automotive laminated glass in the future.
According
to the research, the global laminated glass market has a total revenue of
7097.89 M USD back in 2015, and increased to 7737.63 M USD in 2020. We made the
prediction that the value of Laminated Glass markets can be 10774.29 M USD by
2027. The CAGR of laminated glass is 4.84% from 2020 to 2027.
Although
laminated glass is a solid and reliable source of security, the high cost of
raw materials and large fluctuations are expected to greatly restrict the
growth of the global market. In addition, laminated glass is also threatened by
substitutes such as tempered glass, which restricts its market development.
The
competitiveness of enterprises in the architectural glass industry depends to a
large extent on the ability to improve the quality of existing products,
develop new products and new technologies, and understand the changing needs,
preferences and requirements of customers. Therefore, the company should focus
on product quality, continuously innovate and upgrade products, which can not
only diversify the product portfolio, but also enhance operating efficiency.
Recently,
in response to carbon neutral requirements, laminated glass companies are
striving to find solutions to reduce the consumption of energy and raw
materials, taking into account the impact on the environment. In March 2019,
Phoenicia and Clear Glass Solutions Ltd. established a new laminated glass
recycling plant in Israel. With this new plant, carbon demand, environmental
pollution, energy use and landfill will all be significantly reduced.
