Ultra-high-temperature ceramic (UHTC) is a ceramic matrix composite material that can be applied above 1800℃ and has excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance. Ultra high-temperature ceramics are mainly composed of high melting point borides and carbides, among which HfB2, ZrB2, HfC, ZrC, TaC, and other borides and carbides have melting points exceeding 3000℃, no phase transition, excellent thermochemical stability, and excellent physical properties.
Ultra-high-temperature ceramics can maintain stability at extremely high temperatures, making them widely used in fields such as aerospace, energy, and chemical engineering. Especially in the field of aerospace, ultra-high temperature ceramics can adapt to extreme environments such as ultra-high sound speed long-term flight, atmospheric re-entry, transatmospheric flight, and rocket propulsion systems. They can be used in various key parts or components including aircraft nose cones, wing leading edges, and engine hot ends.
According to their tolerance to different temperatures, ultra-high temperature ceramics can usually be divided into three levels: 1500-1800°C, 1800-2000°C, and above 2000°C. Among them, ultra-high temperature ceramics with a temperature range of 1500-1800°C occupy the largest market share, with an estimated market revenue of $163.40 million in 2023 and an estimated market share of 52.92%.
From the perspective of downstream application patterns, the automotive and aerospace fields are the first and second largest downstream application markets for ultra-high temperature ceramics, respectively. According to our research data, the application revenue of ultra-high temperature ceramics in the automotive and aerospace fields is estimated to reach $97.53 million and $79.36 million in 2023, respectively, with an estimated market share of 31.82% and 25.65%.
